When we walked onto this site, we were met with an once-beautiful house that had been turned into a box with a flat gravel roof. The existing house had once been a historical Victorian that was modernized to the styles of the 1960s, and now its homeowners wanted to return it to its former glory, with a contemporary twist. Along with Hickox-Williams Architects, Anmahian Winton Architects Inc., and Celeste Cooper, we returned it to its previous height, and then went further, using structural steel beams to create high-ceilinged spaces that open onto one another and allow light to filter down from the top. The exterior was made to evoke the building's historical intricacy, and inside, custom built-ins and railing spindles are among many unique details that make this house a home with distinct personality.
